DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY - A NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE
Monday, January 15 is the the day we honor the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. But it is also designated a National Day of Service as a way of celebrating the work that he did for this country. While there are other days throughout the year designated as days of service,, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service. Even during this time of divisiveness, fomenting racism and hate, and rising cases of viruses, there are ways you can safely provide service to others. Many organizations list opportunities for volunteering on their sites and/or their Facebook pages. You might start by looking at organizations listed in our Resource Library for opportunities in your community.
Additionally, you could participate in a Martin Luther King, Jr. parade or other public commemoration of this special holiday.
With all the ugliness happening in our lives, wouldn't it be uplifting to provide a little beauty in someone else' life as well as your own? Let's make this the dawning of a new day for America! Show what good Americans are made of.
