I must admit the first time an appeal to sign a petition for the second impeachment of Trump arrived in my email, I decided not to bother. My thinking was (a) he had lost the election; (b) there was only a short time before he would be gone; and (c) there were so many more important pieces of legislation on which the Congress needed to be spending its' time. I now recognize the wisdom of those proposing the petition. The reality of what unfolded last Wednesday and what we are learning about it makes me believe impeachment is critical now.
In the words of Joan McCarter, staff writer for dailykoss.com: "This is a decision for Congress, and it's vitally important that they move forward with it. Not just to make sure Trump is barred from ever holding office again. Not just to make sure that no Republican president ever, ever tries this again in the future. Not just to hold all of the Republicans in Congress who have participated in this sedition accountable, forcing them to face the American people and vote."
If this democracy is to survive, all those responsible for the acts of terrorism that occurred January 6, 2020, MUST be held accountable!
